Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program?

The Department of Defense SkillBridge Program allows eligible transitioning active-duty service members to gain valuable civilian work experience during their final 180 days of military service while continuing to receive their military pay and benefits.

Does SkillBridge cost my company anything?

Service members continue to receive their military pay and benefits from the Department of Defense during their SkillBridge participation. Employers provide meaningful training and work experience but do not pay the service member's military salary during the SkillBridge period. M.O.V.E. does charge a management fee, which will be discussed further during the application process.

Do I have to hire a service member after SkillBridge?

No. There is no requirement to hire a participant after completing SkillBridge. However, many employers use the program as an opportunity to evaluate potential future employees.

We've never participated in SkillBridge before. Can M.O.V.E. help?

Yes. M.O.V.E. works with employers throughout the SkillBridge process by explaining program requirements, answering questions, and helping coordinate the necessary documentation. Previous SkillBridge experience is not required.

What types of businesses can participate?

SkillBridge opportunities are available across a wide range of industries and career fields. Whether you're a small business, nonprofit organization, or large company, M.O.V.E. can help determine if SkillBridge is a good fit for your organization.

How long can a SkillBridge opportunity last?

SkillBridge opportunities can be approved for up to 180 days, depending on the service member's eligibility, transition timeline, and command approval.
